Effective June 27, 2026

Terms of Service

These Terms govern the ForgeWorks website and your use of ScanForge for Mac when it is offered or acquired through an authorized channel. They explain the app license, permitted use, user files, App Store purchases, redistribution limits, support, disclaimers, and other legal conditions.

Plain-language summary

This summary is here to make the Terms easier to understand, but the detailed sections below control if anything is unclear or inconsistent.

  • You may use ScanForge for personal, professional, internal business, archive, records, design, field, and production workflows, as long as your use is lawful and follows these Terms.
  • ScanForge is licensed to you, not sold. ForgeWorks and its licensors keep all rights in the app, brand, website, documentation, and related materials that are not expressly granted to you.
  • You may not redistribute ScanForge. That means no resale, file sharing, public mirroring, repackaging, sublicensing, renting, leasing, lending, or making the app available for others to copy.
  • You own or control your own source files and output files. ScanForge reads local files you select, writes new output where you choose, and does not give ForgeWorks ownership of your documents.
  • Purchases through the Mac App Store are handled by Apple. Apple, not ForgeWorks, controls App Store billing, taxes, refunds, family sharing, download access, and App Store account rules.
  • ScanForge is provided as a practical utility, not as professional legal, medical, financial, archival, compliance, or records-management advice. You are responsible for reviewing outputs before relying on them.

Who these Terms cover

These Terms apply to your access to and use of ForgeWorks websites, ScanForge for Mac, ScanForge documentation, support materials, downloadable materials, updates, and related services provided by ForgeWorks.

ForgeWorks

In these Terms, ForgeWorks, we, us, and our mean the operator of the ForgeWorks website and provider of ScanForge.

You

You means the person using the website or app. If you use ScanForge on behalf of a company, organization, office, client, or other entity, you represent that you have authority to accept these Terms for that use.

ScanForge

ScanForge means the ForgeWorks macOS app for processing folders of document photos into cleaner image files, matching OCR text sidecars when Image Files export and OCR Text are enabled, one combined PDF, and processing logs.

Website

Website means forgeworksapps.com and the public pages, support pages, policy pages, machine-readable app summaries, assets, and documentation made available through that domain.

Acceptance and eligibility

By downloading, installing, opening, accessing, or using ScanForge or the ForgeWorks website, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app or website.

  • You must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live, or use ScanForge with permission and supervision from a parent, guardian, employer, school, or organization that accepts responsibility for the use.
  • If you use ScanForge for an organization, you are responsible for ensuring that the organization has any needed purchase rights, device rights, internal approvals, backup practices, and data-handling policies.
  • You are responsible for complying with laws, regulations, contracts, professional duties, retention rules, confidentiality obligations, and third-party rights that apply to the documents you process.
  • ForgeWorks may update these Terms as described in the Changes section. Continued use after an update means you accept the updated Terms, except where additional consent is required by law.

Apple App Store and purchase terms

If you obtain ScanForge through the Mac App Store, your purchase, download, installation, updates, family sharing, device access, refunds, taxes, and Apple Account activity are handled by Apple under Apple's applicable App Store, Apple Media Services, and usage rules.

  • These Terms are intended to supplement the App Store terms that apply to your transaction. If Apple's required terms control a specific App Store transaction, refund, download, device, family sharing, or Apple Account issue, Apple's terms control that issue.
  • Purchases through the App Store are processed by Apple. ForgeWorks does not receive your full payment card number from Apple.
  • Refund requests for App Store purchases must be submitted through Apple's refund process unless Apple or applicable law provides another route.
  • ScanForge is planned as a one-time paid app. The current product model does not require subscriptions, in-app purchases, advertising, or a ForgeWorks account.
  • Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for ScanForge beyond obligations Apple may have under its own terms or applicable law. ForgeWorks is responsible for support described in these Terms.

License to use ScanForge

Subject to your compliance with these Terms and any applicable purchase-channel rules, ForgeWorks grants you a limited, personal or internal-business, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable license to install and use ScanForge on supported Apple-branded devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store or other authorized distribution channel.

Permitted use

You may use ScanForge to process your own documents, your organization's documents, or documents you are authorized to process for clients, customers, projects, archives, records, design work, field work, or personal use.

Internal business use

You may use ScanForge for normal internal professional or business workflows, provided the app is acquired and used in a way permitted by the applicable purchase channel and these Terms.

Supported systems

ScanForge requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later. ForgeWorks may change system requirements for future versions as Apple platforms and app capabilities change.

Rights reserved

All rights not expressly granted are reserved by ForgeWorks and its licensors. No ownership interest in ScanForge transfers to you.

No redistribution or transfer

You may not redistribute ScanForge or make it available to anyone else except as expressly permitted by Apple App Store family sharing, Apple Business Manager, volume purchase, or another authorized distribution feature that applies to your purchase.

  • Do not sell, resell, rent, lease, lend, sublicense, assign, transfer, distribute, mirror, publicly host, publish, package, bundle, upload, share, or otherwise provide copies of ScanForge to another person or organization.
  • Do not place ScanForge on public file-sharing services, package repositories, software download sites, internal shared drives, device images, deployment systems, or managed distribution systems unless that use is authorized by the purchase channel and limited to licensed users or devices.
  • Do not make ScanForge available over a network where it can be copied, downloaded, executed, or used by unlicensed users or by more users than the purchase channel permits.
  • Do not remove, obscure, alter, or falsify copyright notices, license notices, trademarks, entitlement checks, purchase validation, security features, or other proprietary notices included with the app.
  • If you sell, transfer, recycle, or give away a device containing ScanForge, you must remove ScanForge from that device unless the transfer is expressly allowed by the purchase channel and these Terms.

Prohibited uses

You agree not to misuse ScanForge, the website, ForgeWorks content, or any related materials.

  • Do not copy ScanForge except as permitted by these Terms, the App Store usage rules, ordinary device backup behavior, or applicable law.
  • Do not reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, decrypt, extract, inspect, derive source code from, modify, adapt, translate, port, or create derivative works of ScanForge, except to the limited extent such restrictions cannot be prohibited by law.
  • Do not bypass, disable, interfere with, or misrepresent license checks, App Store receipts, code signing, notarization, sandboxing, security protections, usage limits, or update mechanisms.
  • Do not use ScanForge to build, train, benchmark, market, or improve a competing product in a way that copies protected expression, proprietary workflow design, interface design, documentation, or confidential information from ForgeWorks.
  • Do not use the app or website to violate law, infringe intellectual property rights, invade privacy, process documents you have no right to process, transmit malware, attempt unauthorized access, or interfere with the security or operation of ForgeWorks systems.
  • Do not scrape, copy, republish, or commercially exploit substantial parts of the ForgeWorks website, screenshots, brand assets, support materials, documentation, machine-readable briefs, or app metadata without written permission.

Your files and output files

ForgeWorks does not claim ownership of the files you select, the documents shown in those files, or the output generated from those files. You are responsible for your files, your rights to process them, and your review of the results.

Source files

Source images, scans, receipts, plans, drawings, forms, archive pages, and other documents you select remain yours or remain controlled by whoever owns them. You must have the rights and permissions needed to process them.

Output files

Cleaned images, combined PDFs, OCR text sidecars, JSON logs, CSV logs, and other outputs produced by ScanForge are your files, subject to any rights that already exist in the source material.

Local storage

ScanForge writes output to the folder you choose. You are responsible for file naming, storage, backups, deletion, retention, confidentiality, access permissions, and sharing after output is created.

Review before relying

Image cleanup, OCR, crop suggestions, file ordering, PDF generation, and logs can be imperfect. You should review outputs before using them for records, client work, compliance, submission, printing, archiving, or decisions.

Local processing and privacy

ScanForge is designed to process user-selected files locally on your Mac and not upload them to a ForgeWorks cloud document-processing service.

  • ScanForge does not require a ForgeWorks account.
  • ScanForge does not use ForgeWorks cloud processing for your documents or images.
  • ScanForge does not use advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, or third-party tracking SDKs in the app model described on this website.
  • ScanForge does not send your documents, output files, OCR text, or processing logs to ForgeWorks for training, review, analytics, AI processing, or cloud OCR.
  • If you voluntarily email ForgeWorks for support, ForgeWorks may receive the information, screenshots, logs, sample files, or attachments you choose to send. Support handling is described in the Privacy Policy.
  • Apple and your operating system may process information through the App Store, TestFlight, crash reporting, App Analytics, operating system services, iCloud, device backups, security tools, or other Apple-controlled services under Apple's terms and privacy practices.

Updates, availability, and compatibility

ForgeWorks may provide updates, bug fixes, compatibility updates, feature changes, documentation changes, or support-material changes. ForgeWorks may also change, suspend, retire, or stop maintaining an app or website feature.

  • Updates may add, change, or remove features, supported file types, user interface details, system requirements, documentation, or compatibility targets.
  • ForgeWorks is not required to support every past macOS version, every device, every image file, every document condition, every OCR language, every scanner, every cloud folder provider, or every third-party workflow.
  • A future version may require a newer version of macOS or newer Apple hardware capabilities.
  • The website may describe current, planned, or preparing-for-release behavior. App Store metadata and the version available to you at a given time control what is actually shipped publicly.
  • ForgeWorks may correct website copy, support copy, machine-readable summaries, screenshots, or product descriptions if they become inaccurate or incomplete.

Support

ForgeWorks provides support by email at support@forgeworks.app on a reasonable-efforts basis. Support availability, response time, and the ability to resolve a problem are not guaranteed.

  • When requesting support, include your macOS version, ScanForge version, input file type, selected output type, and a brief description of what happened.
  • Avoid sending sensitive documents unless they are necessary for support. If you send files, screenshots, logs, or other materials, you are responsible for ensuring you have permission to share them.
  • ForgeWorks may use support information to respond, troubleshoot, improve support quality, maintain business records, prevent abuse, and satisfy legal obligations.
  • ForgeWorks may decline support for modified app copies, redistributed app copies, unsupported operating systems, unsupported file types, illegal use, or workflows that cannot reasonably be reproduced.

Documentation and feedback

ForgeWorks tries to keep website, support, App Store, and in-app documentation accurate, but documentation may contain mistakes, omissions, outdated information, or descriptions of behavior that changes before release.

Documentation

Documentation, screenshots, examples, support notes, machine-readable summaries, and App Store materials are provided for general product information and may not describe every edge case or configuration.

Feedback

If you send ForgeWorks ideas, requests, bug reports, suggestions, workflows, names, copy, feature concepts, or other feedback, you grant ForgeWorks a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free right to use that feedback without restriction or compensation.

No obligation

ForgeWorks is not required to implement feedback, maintain a requested feature, provide public roadmaps, or credit feedback unless ForgeWorks separately agrees in writing.

No confidential submissions

Do not send confidential business plans, trade secrets, unpublished product ideas, or sensitive materials unless they are necessary for support and you are comfortable sharing them by email.

Third-party components and services

ScanForge and the website may rely on Apple frameworks, macOS capabilities, App Store services, open-source components, fonts, build tools, hosting providers, email providers, and other third-party services or materials.

  • Third-party components may be subject to their own licenses, notices, terms, warranties, or disclaimers.
  • Open-source components, if included, are licensed under their applicable open-source licenses. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you may have under those licenses.
  • ForgeWorks is not responsible for third-party services, operating system changes, App Store outages, device problems, file-provider behavior, scanner output, cloud-sync conflicts, email providers, hosting providers, or other systems outside ForgeWorks control.
  • If a third-party service, framework, operating system feature, file format, or App Store requirement changes, ForgeWorks may need to change or remove related app behavior.

No professional advice or guaranteed outcome

ScanForge is a software utility for document-photo cleanup, OCR sidecar extraction, and file export. It does not provide professional advice, recordkeeping certification, legal review, archival certification, compliance approval, medical advice, financial advice, or guaranteed document accuracy.

  • OCR text may be incomplete, incorrect, reordered, missing, or affected by document quality, handwriting, language, layout, lighting, image blur, contrast, shadows, folds, stains, cropping, or Apple Vision behavior.
  • Image cleanup may change appearance, contrast, color, brightness, edges, texture, artifacts, or readability. You are responsible for deciding whether output is acceptable for your use.
  • Auto Crop can suggest a starting crop box, but you are responsible for confirming, adjusting, or rejecting crop results.
  • Processing logs are diagnostic aids, not legal records, compliance certificates, audit certifications, chain-of-custody records, or guarantees that every page was processed perfectly.
  • If your work is regulated or safety-critical, you must use appropriate professional review, validation, backups, quality-control, and retention processes outside ScanForge.

Warranty disclaimer

To the maximum extent permitted by law, ScanForge, the ForgeWorks website, documentation, support materials, updates, and related services are provided as is and as available, with all faults and without warranties of any kind.

  • ForgeWorks disclaims all express, implied, and statutory warranties to the maximum extent permitted by law, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, quiet enjoyment, accuracy, availability, security, non-infringement, and error-free operation.
  • ForgeWorks does not warrant that ScanForge will meet your requirements, process every file correctly, preserve every detail, extract every word, produce a legally sufficient record, run without interruption, remain compatible with every future macOS version, or be free from bugs.
  • No oral or written information from ForgeWorks, the website, documentation, support messages, screenshots, App Store materials, or marketing materials creates a warranty unless expressly stated in a written agreement signed by ForgeWorks.
  • Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions. In those places, the exclusions apply only to the maximum extent permitted by law.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, ForgeWorks will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, punitive, or enhanced damages, or for lost profits, lost revenue, lost business, lost goodwill, lost data, document loss, output errors, business interruption, procurement of substitute services, or reputational harm arising from or related to ScanForge, the website, support, or these Terms.

  • ForgeWorks is not responsible for losses caused by your source files, output choices, file deletion, lack of backups, local device failure, operating system changes, third-party apps, cloud-sync tools, storage providers, email providers, App Store availability, Apple services, or unauthorized access outside ForgeWorks control.
  • ForgeWorks total liability for any claim related to ScanForge, the website, support, or these Terms will not exceed the amount you paid for ScanForge in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, or fifty U.S. dollars, whichever is greater, unless applicable law requires a higher amount.
  • The liability limits apply regardless of legal theory, whether contract, tort, negligence, strict liability, warranty, statute, or otherwise, and even if a remedy fails of its essential purpose.
  • Nothing in these Terms limits liability where such limitation is not allowed by law, including liability that cannot be excluded for intentional misconduct, fraud, or certain consumer rights where applicable.

Your responsibilities

You are responsible for your use of ScanForge, the documents you process, and the systems where you store source and output files.

  • Maintain backups of important source files, output files, PDFs, OCR text, logs, and project records.
  • Confirm that you have permission to process, convert, OCR, export, retain, and share the documents you select.
  • Use appropriate safeguards for sensitive documents, including device security, disk encryption, access controls, file permissions, secure deletion, and secure sharing where needed.
  • Review output quality before submitting, printing, archiving, relying on, or sharing output files.
  • Do not use ScanForge in a way that violates privacy, confidentiality, intellectual property, employment, client, contract, retention, court, professional, regulatory, or export-control obligations.
  • You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold ForgeWorks harmless from claims, damages, losses, costs, and expenses arising from your unlawful use, your breach of these Terms, your documents, or your violation of another person's rights, to the extent permitted by law.

Termination

These Terms remain in effect until terminated by you or ForgeWorks. You may stop using ScanForge and the website at any time.

  • Your license to use ScanForge terminates automatically if you materially breach these Terms or applicable App Store usage rules.
  • After termination, you must stop using ScanForge and delete unauthorized copies in your possession or control.
  • Termination does not require ForgeWorks to delete local files on your Mac. You remain responsible for managing your source files, output files, PDFs, OCR sidecars, and logs.
  • Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including ownership, restrictions, no redistribution, user responsibilities, warranty disclaimers, liability limits, indemnity, governing law, and contact provisions.

Changes to these Terms

ForgeWorks may update these Terms from time to time as ScanForge, the website, distribution channels, support practices, legal requirements, or future ForgeWorks apps change.

  • The effective date at the top of this page shows when this Terms version became effective.
  • Material changes will be reflected on this page, and ForgeWorks may provide additional notice where practical or legally required.
  • If you do not agree to updated Terms, you should stop using ScanForge and the website.
  • Changes do not retroactively expand ForgeWorks rights to your local documents or output files.

Governing law and consumer rights

These Terms are intended to apply to the maximum extent permitted by law. If a provision is unenforceable, it will be limited or modified to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will continue in effect.

  • Unless mandatory law requires otherwise, these Terms and disputes arising from them are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where ForgeWorks is legally established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
  • If you are a consumer, you may have mandatory rights under the laws of your country, state, province, or region. Nothing in these Terms is intended to limit rights that cannot be limited by contract.
  • The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply to these Terms.
  • Before bringing a formal claim, you agree to contact ForgeWorks at support@forgeworks.app and give both sides a reasonable opportunity to resolve the issue informally, unless applicable law gives you a right to proceed otherwise.
